Sustainable Modern

Update an urban backyard re-using existing patio

A large, dated concrete patio was modernized, rather than sending it to the landfill. Horizontal channels were cut out of the patio and creeping thyme was planted, allowing water to percolate to the ground below. Existing plants on the property were moved to the back garden, where they are better suited to conditions there. The planting plan is well adapted to our summer dry climate and is safe for pets, essential to this veterinarian homeowner. A new deck and privacy screens will be installed in 2019.
